The Killers’ ‘The Man’

- Maeve McDermott

Thirteen years after the 2004 release of the Killers’ debut album, Hot Fuss, the band has never really left the popular consciousness, thanks to hits such as Somebody Told Me, Human and, most notably, the immortal

Mr. Brightside. But it’s been a while since one of their singles connected like The

Man, the first new track from their forthcoming album Wonderful

Wonderful, which sees frontman Brandon Flowers leaning fully into his David Bowie impulses. The lyrics are shamelessly cheesy, the chorus’ boasts of “You’re looking at the man” seeming a little preemptive for a band whose best days, many would say, are behind them. But considering the number of summer music festivals The Killers are headlining over the coming months, there’s plenty of fan demand for their accessibly catchy pop-rock, which is precisely what The Man delivers.
