President Trump said Friday that his new restrictions on U.S. travel to and business dealings with Cuba will help bring down the communist regime that has oppressed its people for more than a half-century.

Trump is a backwards man so it doesn’t surprise me that he is going backwards on Cuba. It makes absolutely no sense. The man swears he is for American profit, yet he just closed down a major opportunity for American businesses.

Trump can cut the baloney on the human rights issues. Saudi Arabia has a terrible track record on human rights, yet we just made a multi-billion dollar deal with them. Russia is the definition of human rights abuse, jailing political prisoners for sport, yet Trump wants to get sweet and cozy with them. And should I even mention terroristsupporting Qatar? Larry J. Mitchell

Let’s stop pretending that the horrible things the Castro regime did to its people are all in the past. The regime in Cuba continues to deny free speech and hundreds, if not thousands, are political prisoners. Additionally, the Cuban government continues to cozy up to North Korea and Venezuela.

There are entire cities in South Florida filled with Cubans living in exile because of the actions of the Castros. Not to mention the Cuban regime has yet to even acknowledge its wrongdoing in seizing millions of dollars in assets and property be- longing to now-U.S. citizens.

Normalizing relations with the current government is not the right thing to do. It simply gives a murderous regime access to capital that it desperately needs to survive. Christopher Linn

Eleven presidents have come and gone since 1959. All sorts of different tactics and strategies were used to bring Cuba’s dictators down. President Obama’s approach was making progress finally. So, of course, let’s do what wasn’t working for 56 years once again. Edward Scott

What progress? The Cuban government was collecting more cash to help fund their repressive regime. And the rate of political incarcerations continues to climb. How is this improving anything? Timothy Scott
