MELANCON PUT ON DL
The San Francisco Giants placed closer Mark Melancon on the 10-day disabled list for a second time this season with a sore right forearm. In May, the four-time All-Star missed 12 games dealing with the issue. He was to undergo an MRI on Wednesday. Melancon was supposed to be the prized offseason acquisition for the Giants. He signed a then-record deal for a closer — four years, $62 million — but has yet to live up to expectations. He has blown four of 15 save opportunities and has a a career-high 4.58 ERA as a closer.
