DODGERS’ TURNER, ROYALS’ MOUSTAKAS LAST ALL-STARS

-

Third basemen Justin Turner and Mike Moustakas rode a groundswell of support from their fan bases — and a cooperative effort — to prevail in online balloting for the final All- Star Game roster spots in the National and American leagues, respectively. Turner, the NL leader in batting average (.384) and onbase percentage (.473), makes his first All-Star team four years after he was non-tendered by the New York Mets. After reviving his career over three strong seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Turner, 32, signed a four-year, $64 million deal with the club in December. Moustakas is the first player to win the final vote competition twice, the last in 2015. Moustakas, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in 2016, has rebounded to slug 25 home runs this season to help the Royals to within a game of first place.
