‘THRONES’ BRINGS WINTER TO THE LOS ANGELES PREMIERE

- Bill Keveney @billkev USA TODAY

Winter arrived LOS ANGELES in balmy downtown Los Angeles Wednesday, courtesy of the much-anticipated Season 7 premiere screening of HBO’s Emmy-winning Game of Thrones.

With a “Winter is here” theme, a frosty blue carpet and the chilling visage of the icy Night’s King on posters, sculptures and projected onto the exterior of the Walt Disney Concert Hall, HBO offered the only advance screening of its Emmy-winning saga before the premiere Sunday (9 ET/PT).

Many cast members, including Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), spoke to reporters on the carpet, and guests were treated to a performance of

Thrones music conducted by show composer Ramin Djawadi.

Before the season opener was screened, HBO cleverly invoked a no-spoilers clause with an audio warning in Snow’s voice that all “lords, ladies, wildlings, bastards and CAA agents” refrain from taking photos and videos and sharing episodic spoilers, asking all to “pledge my honor to the Night’s Watch and all nights to come — until Sunday.”

After the one-hour episode, guests walked across the street to an open-air party on the roof of a parking garage where White (stilt) Walkers towered above guests, white-clad dancers performed on a dance floor that featured a map of Westeros, and large white sculptures of the head of the blue-eyed Night’s King, the leader of the White Walkers, could be seen against the downtown skyline.

Guests ate, drank and mingled as scenes of dragon fire and north-of-the-wall blizzards flashed above on the concert hall façade.

Other Thrones stars in attendance included John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark), Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei), and Aidan Gillen (Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish).

The party drew other stars, too, including Queen Latifah, Jimmy Kimmel, and Amanda Peet.
