ARIZONA Tucson: The Coronado National Forest has received funding to start aerial seeding of more than 1,000 acres that were burned in a recent wildfire. Officials say projects also were approved to clear drainage channels of debris and establish safety measures for trails and developed sites.

ARKANSAS Little Rock: As of Aug. 1, lottery ticket buyers in Arkansas can use their debit card at retailers willing to take them. But some retailers won’t because they have to pay fees to accept the cards, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports.

CALIFORNIA San Francisco: The California Supreme Court has narrowed the scope of a 2012 ballot measure that allowed some three-strike inmates to get shorter prison terms. In a unanimous ruling, the court said judges can consider facts in previously dismissed charges to deny a reduced sentence. COLORADO Loveland: No criminal charges are expected against a mower operator who accidental­ly sparked a Colorado wildfire. The Loveland Fire Rescue Authority says the Spring Glade fire started after a tractor mower spindle struck a rock, igniting dry grass, the Loveland ReporterHe­rald reports.

MAINE Augusta: The Maine Department of Labor says most businesses won’t be able to fire an employee for a marijuana-positive drug test unless they can prove impairment on the job. MARYLAND Berlin: A man driving an ATV escaped serious injury after being struck by a landing crop duster. The ATV operator said he noticed the plane touch down and tried to get out of the way, but was thrown from his vehicle. The pilot wasn’t injured.

MASSACHUSE­TTS Orleans: A marine conservati­on group disentangl­ed a young humpback whale off Cape Cod. The Center for Coastal Studies says the whale had a bridle of heavy line looped though its mouth and twisted across its back, with two orange buoys trailing behind it.

MICHIGAN Flint: A woman accused of stealing cemetery flowers that authoritie­s say she used to decorate her home was sentenced to nine months in jail,

MINNESOTA Duluth: Authoritie­s are investigat­ing a fatal boat crash on Dinham Lake. One woman who was thrown into the water was rescued and taken to a Duluth hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

MONTANA Billings: A federal appeals court has ordered a jury trial for a wildlife activist who said his rights were violated in 2012 when a sheriff ’s deputy barred him from watching wild bison being herded into Yellowston­e National Park.
