ARIZONA COACH: PLAYER’S ORIENTATION NOT RELEVANT

- From staff and wire reports

Arizona football coach Rich Rodriguez met with reporters at the Pac-12 media days Wednesday and was asked about incoming freshman My-King Johnson, who will become one of the first openly gay scholarship players in major-college football history. Johnson, a three-star defensive end, told the Arizona coaching staff that he was gay during the recruiting process. “His personal lifestyle should not be a story,” Rodriguez said. “What should be a story is how he’s going to play on the field. And, for us, that’s the way we’re treating it.”
