Defensive lineman Malik Mc

Dowell is not at the Seattle Seahawks training camp after the rookie was involved in a “vehicular accident” during the team’s break. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Sunday that the accident occurred two weeks ago and that McDowell was recovering at home in Michigan. He added that he could not say whether McDowell, who was placed on the reserve/did not report list, would play this season. McDowell said on Twitter that his injuries were neither life nor career threatening. The former Michigan State star was a second-round selection (No. 35 overall) in April’s draft, the Sea-

hawks’ top pick.

uRob Ninkovich, the longtime New England Patriots pass rusher who helped lead the team to two Super Bowl titles, retired Sunday after 11 seasons in the NFL. Ninkovich joined the Patriots in 2009 as an under-the-radar signing, having played in only eight games in three years. But the 2006 fifth-round pick out of Purdue emerged as a starter in his second year with New England and went on to become a team captain in 2013 and 2015. He finished his career with 46 sacks, ranking fifth in Patriots history.
