BELTRE REACHES 3,000 HITS
Texas Rangers slugger Adrian
Beltre, a .286 lifetime hitter, became the 31st member of the 3,000-hit club Sunday when he doubled off Wade Miley of the Baltimore Orioles. In doing so, the Rangers third baseman also became the first Dominican-born player to achieve the feat. Beltre, a four-time All-Star, has been swinging a hot bat lately for a team desperately trying to get back into playoff contention. He is 11-for-20 during the Rangers homestand and 13-for-25 in his last six games. Since the All-Star break, he’s hitting a team-high .373. Beltre is in his 20th major league season.
uSteve Pearce hit his second game-ending grand slam in four days and the Toronto Blue Jays pulled off the biggest ninth-inning comeback in team history, rallying for seven runs to beat the Los Angeles Angels 11-10 Sunday. Pearce connected with one out off former Baltimore teammate Bud Norris (1-4).
