It’s not all Rachel and roses

The guys dish on stuff the cameras didn’t show you

Contestants dish on the time they weren’t spending with the lovely Bachelorette

It’s been a long journey to love for Rachel Lindsay on this season of ABC’s hit reality show The Bachelorette, and she’s finally down to three men vying for her heart.

But even though the cameras were rolling 24/7, there’s plenty that doesn’t make the cut. And the men of The Bachelorette are more than happy to spill on what really goes on.

We sat down with a few of the men after the filming of the “Men Tell All” episode to talk about what the season was really like on their end. 1 EVEN THE BACHELOR MANSION EXPERIENCES PLUMBING PROBLEMS. Contestant Jack Stone told USA TODAY that once, the water shut off while the men were primping for a rose ceremony. Let’s just say the roses probably couldn’t cover the smell.

2 THE MEN EAT FAMILY DINNERS TOGETHER. The guys make all of their own food in the house, and there’s no such thing as calling in Pizza Hut for a quick bite. Many of the men said contestant Will Gaskins came to the rescue as super-chef.

“Will planned a lot of our dinners,” said Diggy Moreland. “We kinda did eat family dinners … and even breakfast. We would wake up, someone would be cooking eggs and we’d say ‘Hey, throw a couple on for me.’ ”

3 SOME OF THE GUYS PLAN SECRET DATES, AND THEY’RE SO ROMANTIC. A lot of viewers were surprised when Adam Gottschalk made it into the final six, complaining that they hadn’t seen much of his relationship with Rachel. But be- hind the scenes, he planned some of the most romantic mini-dates.

“Rachel and I made crepes,” Gottschalk says. “I did a trip to Europe last year and I was like, ‘We gotta make crepes, its handson, she’ll like it, we can play with food, I can feed her, it’s cute.’ We laid on the grass and stargazed for another night.”

4 JACK STONE SAYS HIS CRINGE-WORTHY DATE DIDN’T ACTUALLY PLAY OUT LIKE THAT. You may remember Stone as having one of the most awkward dates in Bachelor history. After tripping over his feet (his words) while dancing, the camera cut to him making a creepy staring face at Rachel.

“I think a lot of people understand that it is a TV show at the end of the day, and there is editing and sometimes how you’re portrayed is not the way you actually are in real life,” Stone says.

5 IT’S HARD TO STAY CURRENT ON NEWS. Outside of travel times, the men don’t have a way to stay up to date on the news.

“I didn’t have my phone for, like, two months,” says Dean Unglert. “When I turned my phone on I had, like, 5,000 missed text messages.”

6 THE GUYS DID NOT GO THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA CHECKS. BUT NOW THEY WILL. A bombshell was dropped midseason, when Lee Garrett’s tweets surfaced, one equating the NAACP to the KKK and another comparing women with dogs.

“It is embarrassing and it’s sad that I am going to say this out loud, but we did not know those tweets existed,” host Chris Harrison told USA TODAY. “People are like ‘Are you kidding me?’ but we really didn’t. We take control of their accounts and they’re shut down, so it’s something we’ve never had to worry about. ... Now we’re going to have to go through everybody’s tweets and it’s a pain in the butt, but it’s something we have to do.”
