Education Secretary Betsy DeVos signaled strong disagreement with the Obama administration’s erosion of due process protections for college students accused of sexual assault.
Requiring criminal standards of proof in higher education administrative hearings is not appropriate since the only sanctions available to the university (suspension or expulsion) are not criminal penalties. A disciplined student is at liberty to enroll elsewhere. Charles Buck
False reporting of rape does happen. False accusers should be punished with the same sentence as rape itself. The law is here to protect us all, not to be used as a truncheon because someone is filled with regret the morning after or, even worse, as some sort of retribution.
This is why we have due process. Mike Martin
