JETS ROOKIE CRITICIZED FOR CTE COMMENTS

-

The ex-wife of late Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Justin Strzelczyk was bothered by New York Jets rookie Jamal Adams’ comments regarding the degenerative brain disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). Adams, who was discussing the risks of CTE later in life during a team forum on Monday, said the football field is the “perfect place to die.” Keana McMahon, who was married to Strzelczyk for eight years, told the New York Daily News those comments were insensitive. “I don’t know what to say,” she told the paper. “(Adams) doesn’t know what’s coming down the pipeline. He has no idea what dealing with someone who has CTE is like.” McMahon said Strzelczyk suffered from mood swings and aggressive behavior after his retirement from football. Strzelczyk died in a head-on collision with a truck in September 2004.

uTwo seasons after holding out into the second game of the season, Seattle Seahawks strong safety Kam Chancellor — a key piece of the team’s top-tier defense — agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension worth up to $36 million, with $25 million guaranteed, a person with knowledge of the deal con- firmed to USA TODAY Sports. The person spoke under condition of anonymity because the deal hadn’t been publicly announced yet. ESPN was the first to report the agreement. In 2016, Chancellor had 85 tackles, eight passes defended, two interceptions and one forced fumble in 12 games. Chancellor is the Seattle enforcer, and locking him up for the near future was a priority.
