BOWIE COMPLETES USA’S SWEEP OF 100 IN WORLDS The American sprinter took a mighty tumble. Nobody, however, has fallen harder than Jamaica in this year’s world championships in London. The evening after Usain Bolt’s improbable loss to two U.S. runners, the world’s best sprint island watched the red, white and blue paraded around the track again at its expense. Tori Bowie leaned over the line for her 100 meters victory, then stumbled and crashed to the track to put the exclamation point on the second consecutive sprint shock of the meet. Her .01-- second victory Sunday over Marie-Josee Ta Lou of the Ivory Coast was a photo-finish thriller. The fact that the defending Olympic champion, Elaine Thompson of Jamaica, finished fifth was every bit as stunning. This marks the first U.S. sweep of the 100 at the worlds since 2005. The photo finish shows Ta Lou’s foot ahead of Bowie’s, but Bowie beats her where it counts — her torso is over the line a fraction of an inch ahead of Ta Lou’s. In a tight finish Saturday, Bolt was punished for his slow start and Justin Gatlin, 35, fought back to nip everyone at the line in 9.92 seconds. U.S. teammate Christian Coleman took silver in 9.94 seconds while Bolt, 30, got bronze in 9.95.

Other winners Sunday: Rose Chelimo of Bahrain and Geoffrey Kirui of Kenya in the marathon doubleheader. … Tomas Walsh of New Zealand in shot put, a result that was verified after the USA’s Joe Kovacs lost an appeal over his last throw. The throw would’ve been a winner but he was ruled to have foot faulted. … Ekaterini Stefanidi of Greece in the women’s pole vault, holding off Sandi Morris of the USA. … Nafi Thiam of Belgium in the heptathlon.

KEYS TOPS VANDEWEGHE Madison Keys and CoCo Van- deweghe had never played on opposite sides of the net, just together on Fed Cup for the USA, bonding and becoming friends during that extended stay in Australia in April last year. They sure put on an entertaining show of tennis when they faced off Sunday. Third-seeded Keys outslugged No. 6 Vandeweghe 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 to win the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford, Calif., in a display of power and serving. Keys won her third career singles title, and first on home soil, and first on hardcourt.

GOYDOS TOPS SAUERS IN CHAMPIONS PLAYOFF Paul Goydos birdied the first playoff hole Sunday to win the 3M Championship over Gene Sauers. Both shot 66 in regulation to get to 20-under-par 196 at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minn. Sauers’ second playoff shot splashed in the lake in front of the 18th green; Goydos cleared the water by less than a yard and two-putted. It is the first PGA Tour Champions win of the season for Goydos. Kevin Sutherland shot 64 to tie for third with Steve Stricker (66) and Brandt Jobe (67) two shots back.

STROUD WINS THREE-MAN BARRACUDA GOLF PLAYOFF Chris Stroud made an eagle on his final hole of regulation to get into a three-man playoff and won with a two-putt birdie on the second extra hole Sunday in the Barracuda Championship, his first PGA Tour victory in his 289th start. Stroud played the final six holes at Montreaux Golf and Country Club in Reno with three birdies and an eagle to earn 20 points in the modified Stableford format. That got him into a playoff with Greg Owen and Richy Werenski, who each birdied the par-5 18th. Owen was eliminated with a par on the 18th hole. Returning to the 18th hole, Stroud drilled his approach to 12 feet, while Werenski went over the green, chipped to 25 feet and missed the birdie putt. The victory sent Stroud to the PGA Championship this week for his first major in three years, along with a two-year exemption.
