MCGREGOR THINKS GLOVES WILL HELP HIM

- — Martin Rogers

Conor McGregor thinks Wednesday’s ruling of the Nevada State Athletic Commission to permit 8ounce gloves for his Aug. 26 fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. gives him a significant advantage. McGregor typically competes in 4-ounce gloves in the Ultimate Fighting Championship but was initially faced with the prospect of fighting Mayweather in 10ounce hand coverings. The NSAC stipulates that in most cases, fights taking place at 154 pounds or above should use 10-ounce gloves. After a verbal chal- lenge from McGregor, Mayweather revealed on social media last week that he was willing to accept 8-ounce equipment. “I’m very happy with how (the commission) handled it,” McGregor said. “They took both fighters’ requests into consideration, and I’m very happy with it.”
