CHANGING COURSE

There have been more than a dozen official announcements of a changed course or a fresh approach or a strategic review in the 16 years since President Bush ordered the invasion of Afghanistan after 9/11.

The Trump administration’s plan includes deploying several thousand more U.S. troops to the region, broadening military commanders’ authority to take on terrorist groups and increasing pressure on Pakistan to stop giving aid and shelter to militant groups along the border.
