THE PLAYLIST
Ahead of Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards, get to know one of next year’s surefire contenders.
Dua Lipa released her visual for New Rules after the VMAs’ eligibility cutoff last month, but that hasn’t stopped the mesmerizing dance video from becoming one of the most talked-about clips of 2017. With 125 million views (and counting) on YouTube, New Rules’ viral success has helped propel the horn-laced breakup anthem up the charts: hitting No. 1 in the U.K. and No. 81 on the Billboard Hot 100 stateside this week. Lipa, a 22-year-old British pop newcomer, shares a playlist of her current favorites with
USA TODAY.
Bad Liar Selena Gomez
I love the direction Selena has chosen to go with this (still-untitled upcoming) album. It’s really cool, new and different.
Kiwi Harry Styles
I love this song, lyrically.
Ryd Steve Lacy
I love this whole EP, ( Steve Lacy’s Demo). I think there’s a cool Mac DeMarco influence throughout, and this song really stands out for me.
Blem Drake
This is one of my favorite songs from the album ( More Life).
Location Khalid
I love Khalid’s voice. It’s really distinct. He’s a very talented songwriter.
100M’s Dave
I love the production on this, and I wanted to add some cool new U.K. artists to this playlist.
There for You Martin Garrix and Troye Sivan
A really unexpected collaboration but I guess that’s what Martin likes to do. I love the song and the artists.
Did You See J HUS
This has been my song of the summer. I love his album ( Common Sense) as well. He’s definitely an artist to look out for.
The Less I Know the Better Tame Impala
My favorite song off the current album ( Currents) and the music video to this is one of my all time favorites.
Chanel Frank Ocean
I love everything Frank does. This is a great song.
