After an earthquakes of 7.1 magnitude hit Mexico on Tuesday, rescuers are still digging for survivors as the death toll reaches more than 200.

My condolences and heartfelt prayers for the people of Mexico. That said, before we start thinking we must send billions and the heavy support that we usually do, let’s take care of our own. Floridians, Texans and my neighbors to the north, Montanans who were burning all summer, need our help.

I feel bad that my sympathy is starting to fade a bit for some of those around the world who have nothing good to say about this amazing country. I’m sorry about the earthquake, the loss of lives, injuries and destruction, but we’ve got our own folks to help and save at this time. I wish Mexico the best of luck. Garth Hogan

Strange that this happened on the same day as the 1985 quake. Also, strange that all these natural calamities that are happening in North America come on the heels of a total solar eclipse that occurred directly over the continent. Prophecy or pure coincidence? Sheila Ramon

The fact that Mexico was already conducting earthquake drills was a blessing that no doubt saved many lives. Phillip Coyle
