FLA. PLAYERS MAY FACE CHARGES
Several Florida players face felony charges on fraud, according to Alachua County (Fla.) court records after they were accused of misusing student ID cards to charge items. Anto
nio Callaway, one of the top receivers on the team, and Jordan
Scarlett, who was supposed to start at running back, are the most significant players who are facing charges.
Defensive end Jordan Smith, re
ceiver Rick Wells, linebacker James Houston, defensive lineman Rich
erd Desir-Jones, linebacker Ventrell Miller, defensive lineman
Keivonnis Davis and offensive lineman Kadeem Telfort were also named. Before the Gators played Michigan, the players were suspended after reportedly purchasing items at the campus bookstore with their student identification cards, which didn’t have sufficient funds for the transactions, and later selling the items for cash. According to the Associated Press, Callaway transferred $1,970 from a stolen credit card to his campus bookstore account and Scarlett transferred $1,940 from the same card to his account. — Kevin Spain
