‘Bang ’s Sheldon made like Saturn. She said yes
Eight seasons after being forcibly signed up for online dating and a year and a half after losing their virginity, Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) and Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) are engaged — although the bride-to-be would really like her fiancé to stop leading with the part about kissing another woman.
As you may recall from May’s Season 10 finale, a kiss from a former grad student (Riki Lindhome) made Sheldon realize Amy was the only woman for him. So he headed off to Princeton University, where Amy was starting a fellowship, to pop the question — after scoring the blessing of Dr. Stephen Hawking, who told him to “make like Saturn and put a ring on it.”
As Sheldon shared the news with his friends, viewers learned Season 11’s other big development: Howard’s wife, Bernadette (Melissa Rauch), is pregnant with their second child. And this time, she’s even more freaked out.
“She’s so happy, I think she’s crying,” Howard reported, unaware that Bernie was on the other side of the bathroom door holding a positive pregnancy test. (He was plenty freaked out, too, when she told him later in the episode.) The most surprising moment? Amy confronting her rival for Sheldon’s affection ... with a hug and gratitude.
THE BEST LINES
“Lord, thank you. Even though you can do anything, that was mighty impressive.” — Sheldon’s mom, Mary Cooper (Laurie Meltcalf ), uttering a prayer upon hearing the big news
“I came here to propose. If you said no, I wouldn’t want to sit around looking at your stupid face. Mind you, your face is only stupid in the ‘no’ version of the story.” — Sheldon, explaining to Amy why he booked his flight back to California for the same day
“Screw them and their happiness. What do you have for someone who’s bitter and alone?” — Raj (Kunal Nayyar), changing his approach after he came to the comic store to buy an engagement present. Stuart, gesturing around the store: “Literally, everything?”
“It’s like having Optimus Prime over for dinner and not asking him to turn into a truck.” — Sheldon, annoyed that Amy’s bosses wanted to talk about her work at dinner
“Left out? Bernadette has to grow a baby inside of her and Amy has to marry one. My life is great!” — Penny, reassuring Leonard she’s not feeling insecure about the new developments in her friends’ lives
