Celebritie­s mourn a senseless act: ‘Why?’

Celebritie­s took to social media Monday to express their grief after the deadly shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas.

Jason Aldean was performing as the shooting began late Sunday. On Instagram, he said that he his crew members were safe and that he was “heartbroke­n.” “Tonight has been beyond horrific,” he wrote captioned a picture of the city.

Jake Owen, who performed ahead of Aldean, called the event “unimaginab­le.” “Please pray,” he tweeted.

Other reaction from the world of music:

Blake Shelton found the act utterly senseless. “I don’t even know anymore... Why?”

Keith Urban was “Stilled and speechless.”

Carrie Underwood hoped “the Lord bring some comfort.”

Martina McBride said she was praying for those “affected... which is really all of us.”

LeAnn Rimes Cibrian tweeted that she was “Praying for even just a moment of peace for everyone’s hearts today.”

Shania Twain wrote that she was “Heartbroke­n over the news of Vegas.”

Thomas Rhett couldn’t even “fathom what happened.”

Kelsea Ballerini thought of “the fans who came to sing and dance and be free and happy.”

Artists outside the country music community also were in mourning:

Celine Dion, who has a residency at Caesars Palace, said she was “Praying for all the innocent victims and their families.”

Mariah Carey offered her thoughts: “Praying for everyone’s safety.”

Liam Payne: “Senseless violence needs to stop now.”

Elizabeth Banks wanted to know: “At what point do we Americans say #enough.”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson wrote, “Hug our loved ones that much tighter today.”

Neil Patrick Harris couldn’t “wrap my head around the atrocity in Vegas.”

Chloë Grace Moretz called the Las Vegas first-responders “true (heroes).”

And Kevin Jonas: “Music should always be a safe place.”
