WHITE HOUSE LISTS IMMIGRATION DEMANDS
As Congress debates how to extend deportation protection for undocumented immigrants brought the to U.S. as children, the White House circulated Sunday a long list of demands for immigration legislation, including building a border wall, hiring thousands of border guards and expanding the use of electronic employment verification systems.
In a letter to lawmakers, Trump wrote that the list represents “reforms that must be included as part of any legislation addressing the status of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients. Without these reforms, illegal immigration and chain migration, which severely and unfairly burden American workers and taxpayers, will continue without end.”
Democratic leaders rejected the demands, saying they go far beyond what Democrats are willing to consider as part of a deal to protect “DREAMers.”
