NHRA’S DEJORIA RETIRING

Alexis DeJoria announced Monday that she will retire from the NHRA following the conclusion of the 2017 season. The Kalitta Motorsport­s pilot, who has been one of the more successful Funny Car drivers of the last six years, said she is leaving the sport to focus on her family. DeJoria began her NHRA career in 2005, working her way up the ranks in the Super Gas, Super Comp and Top Alcohol Funny Car categories before making her profession­al nitro debut at the Texas NHRA FallNation­als in September 2011. The Tequila Patrón Toyota Camry driver has earned five Funny Car wins in her sixyear nitro career, including the prestigiou­s U.S. Nationals in 2014. She was also the first female Funny Car driver to break the foursecond barrier and the first woman to compete in 100 Funny Car events.
