This fall, maple aims to carve out the pumpkin

Flavor favorites vie for your taste buds

The fall flavor fight is on. Pumpkin still reigns, but maple is looking to steal the crown.

Starbucks introduced a Maple Pecan Latte for autumn. As sales of pumpkin-flavored items slow, merchants are turning over a new leaf with maple-flavored concoctions.

The flavor everyone associates with autumn jumped to the fore with Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte, or PSL. Shortages of the drink have caused morning meltdowns across the country.

The question is, can maple knock the orange fruit off its stoop?

Pumpkin isn’t backing down. Just in time for National Pumpkin Day on Oct. 26, businesses are rolling out a variety of products. Here are a few:

Dunkin’ Donuts added pumpkin cream cheese to its lineup of pumpkin donuts. The company has a hand in the maple game, too, offering Maple Pecan Iced Coffee and the Maple Sugar Bacon Breakfast Sandwich.

Baileys says “cheers” by bringing back its Pumpkin Spice Liqueur.

Krispy Kreme reprised its Pumpkin Spice Original Glazed doughnut.

Tim Hortons will offer pumpkin spice-flavored iced cappuccino.

M& M’s colorful candies spice up the season with a new pumpkin pie flavor. It comes in white chocolate with a pumpkinflavored coating.

Pumpkin spice butter can be spread over every last crumb of your muffin or doughnut. For the second year, Land O’Lakes rolled out the butter.
