PETERSON DEALT TO CARDS
The Adrian Peterson experiment is over for the New Orleans Saints. The team traded the veteran running back to the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday in exchange for an undisclosed 2018 NFL draft pick. Running back
Chris Johnson was cut to make room on the roster. ESPN was the first to report the news. “We are always on the lookout for opportunities to improve our team, and we look at this as one of those opportunities,” Cardinals general manager Steve Keim said in a release. “What Adrian has accomplished in this league is well-established. ... We are excited to give him the chance to provide that.” Peterson, 32, signed with the Saints in the offseason after spending 10 seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. But he had just 27 carries for 81 yards in the first four games as he struggled to carve out a role. In Arizona, he joins an offense looking for a threat at running back after Da
vid Johnson was sidelined by surgery on his wrist. The Cardinals are averaging a league-worst 51.8 rushing yards per game.
Mark Ingram will remain the Saints’ starter at running back, while rookie Alvin Kamara could take on a larger role.
