LOUISVILLE ASSISTANT FIRED

-

Louisville announced Wednesday night that it “parted ways” with assistant men’s basketball coach

Jordan Fair. The statement said his contract is being terminated “without cause,” and he “will continue to be paid for 30 days.” That clause in Fair’s contract allows the athletics director to fire Fair “at-will and without cause” with 30 days’ notice. Louisville athletics spokesman Kenny Klein said interim athletics director Vince

Tyra made the decision. Fair was placed on paid administrative leave last week amid the FBI’s investigation into college basketball recruiting at several institutions, including Louisville. Associate head coach Kenny Johnson was also placed on paid leave at that time. His status has not changed, the release said Wednesday.

As part of the federal probe into college basketball, Oklahoma State has received a subpoena from a grand jury in New York for documents and other communications that reveal violations by players and coaches, according to a report by The Oklahoman. Cowboys assistant Lamont Evans was one of four assistant coaches who was accused by the FBI of taking bribes in exchange for coercing players to sign with certain agents when the players turned pro. The other assistants were Auburn’s Chuck Person, Southern California’s Tony Bland and Arizona’s Emanuel “Book” Richardson. The bribes allegedly ranged from $15,000 to about $100,000. Oklahoma State fired Evans after the charges came to light. The school has until Oct. 17 to comply with the subpoena, which is demanding it turn over emails, text messages, cellular phone records, social media messages, computer records and handwritten notes from Jan. 1, 2014, to the present or send someone to New York to testify, according to The Oklahoman.
