Trump is making a joke of the U.S. internationally

It cost us nothing, except alienating us internationally as all the other signatories of the deal oppose this action. Iran does not fear U.S. sanctions. What brought them to the table was that we created a coalition with European Union, Russian and Chinese sanctions that basically strangled their economy. Without these sanctions we have no leverage, as our trade with the Iranians is negligible.

If we abrogate the treaty without cause (every other country and international organization believes Iran is living up to the deal) it’s the U.S. that is breaking the deal. This will push our partners into siding with Iran, further alienating us in the international community. Even Israel is split on this. Mark Sikes

President Trump is running circles around the previous administration when it comes to foreign policy. Thank goodness we have a more strategic administration with more backbone. Daniel Nelson

The idea of Trump playing a clever, several moves ahead, Machiavellian game of any sort is laughable. Felice Sage

The only sanctions with any real impact are international sanctions. U.S. sanctions will have little impact on Iran’s economy. No nation will follow Trump down the sanctions path. This was a smart move from Trump to inspire his base and punt to Congress, which can’t get anything done. If Trump breaks the deal, Iran might stay in the agreement but reserves its right to exit the broken agreement. Other nations might not be willing to reimpose sanctions, leaving the Iran nuclear program full speed ahead. Leonard Thomas
