USA TODAY’s article “20,000 DACA teachers
at risk — and your kids could feel the fallout, too,” on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, is sad, but it failed to put the responsibility where it belongs. The parents of these undocumented children knew exactly what they were doing at the time. If we do not enforce our country’s laws now, it will just encourage others — in a never-ending cycle.
We punish law breakers, not only to teach them the boundaries of society’s rules, but to also discourage others from doing the same. My heart goes out to these young adults, but as a social studies and history teacher, I feel we must enforce our laws.
This flood of illegal immigration must be stopped. It is truly sad, but these people must be deported in order to discourage others. Joseph Florio
