Out of hell, small acts of heroism

The California wildfires brought tragedy but also countless heroes

After deadly wildfires whipped through large portions of California’s wine country, one type of person was needed: heroes. Heroes wore firefighte­r uniforms and police badges. Heroes donned gear, ready to fight. Heroes knocked on doors and led people to safety. But they also made breakfast burritos for volunteers, followed a dog’s barking to lead a person to safety and honked their horns to alert neighbors to the incoming inferno. Some of the many unsung heroes would be family members, friends and neighbors wanting to lend a helping hand. The heroic acts help us have hope. Here are some of their stories:
