LETTERS LETTERS@USATODAY.COM Watching President Trump is like

watching a 4-year old saying, “Look at me, see what I did.”

Most presidents have consoled the wounded and those family members of servicemembers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Trump denigrates the whole military by his callous remarks of him doing a better job of calling on the phone rather than writing a letter to grieving families. It’s disingenuous at best.

I’m a retired officer and veteran, and I’m ashamed for our country that such a man makes political points with our honored, fallen soldiers. Does this man have no shame? How low can he go? Wake up America.

Look around you, America. We are being divided by this man who lacks compassion, has fake empathy and is a disgraceful commander in chief. James P. Rodgers

Unlike the patriotic, fallen soldier, Army Sgt. La David Johnson, President Trump had no idea what he was signing up for when he ran for office. Michael Fetzer

There’s nothing wrong with recounting a soldier’s bravery to his family. It’s the same thing as praising people for being willing to put themselves in harm’s way. For some, it’s not possible for Trump to say anything right! Richard Clear

Yes, the hero enlisted and Trump ran and hid from service with five deferments. Is this what fly-over-state voters call hope? And the veterans who voted for Trump, what is wrong with you, brothers? Did you really put your life on the line so this man could tear it all down? Zenon Ryszard

Trump is actually well-known for his empathy, so I know this comes as quite a shock to most liberals. Anthony Mosich
