‘Pro-lifers’ won’t support ‘dreamers’

- LETTERS LETTERS@USATODAY.COM

In USA TODAY’s column “Abortion and

‘dreamers’ could unite pro-life, social-justice evangelicals,” Dan Darling has some nerve referring to his brainchild as a “human dignity movement” when it would rob women of the ability to seek abortion when they need it. Just last week, authorities in Texas attempted to prevent a 17-year-old undocumented immigrant from getting the abortion care she requested in order to force her to go through with the pregnancy against her will.

Is this the anti-abortion movement’s idea of dignity? A movement that purports to work for human rights but would deny women the ability to decide when and whether we become parents is as morally bankrupt as any other attack on social justice.

A true movement for human dignity would respect the autonomy of all, not just some. Debra Hauser, president Advocates for Youth
