Bowyer’s team penalized
Clint Bowyer’s No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing team was on the receiving end of a bizarre penalty Wednesday. NASCAR officials announced the team had committed an L1 infraction Sunday at Martinsville Speedway, which relates to the TV video package. The rule asserts that if teams are not carrying an in-car camera for a given week, they must mount a simulated weight in the car to makes up the difference. Bowyer’s simulated weight did not meet specifications, so NASCAR levied a combination of fines, suspensions and loss of points on the team, including suspending crew chief Mike Bugarew
icz for Sunday’s race at Texas Motor Speedway and fining him $25,000.
