Keith Urban’s ‘Female’

-

Wednesday’s CMA Awards featured the premiere of Keith Urban’s

Female, a song the country singer wrote to honor the women in his life.

And there are many. Married to Nicole Kidman, the couple are parents to two daughters, Sunday and Faith. The song was written by Nicolle Galyon, Ross Copperman, Shane McAnally, all parents of girls. As Urban told The (Nashville) Tennessean, the recent flurry of sexual harassment scandals compelled him to write the rousing track, and he had just completed Female in the studio when he brought it to the CMA Awards.

“It just spoke to me as a father and a husband and a son,” he said. “The song really touched me for women of all ages and all walks of life.”

And while the song seeks to honor all the women in Urban’s life, its lyrics are aimed squarely at his young daughters, as he sings: “When you hear somebody says somebody hits like a girl / How does it hit you? / Is that such a bad thing?”
