Florida Internatio­nal University is investigat­ing reports that the school’s Republican student chapter used a text-messaging group to offend immigrant classmates. Images published by the Miami New Times show shared messages such as “call ICE” on a day students rallied for immigrant rights.

The FBI says two to three men are behind at least nine violent armed robberies targeting Asian-owned businesses in metro Atlanta, WXIA-TV reports.

Enrollment declines may mean closing or merging five city schools, The South Bend Tribune reports. At least 1,200 students would be relocated.

IOWA Cedar Rapids:

KCRG-TV reports that the City Council is moving to restrict fireworks sales to industrial areas and ban the use of fireworks anywhere in the city.

KANSAS Topeka:

State agencies have asked for more than $274 million in new funding, The Wichita Eagle reports. The requests do not include additional spending for schools.
