Opposing view: Democrats’ response is laughable

- Ronna McDaniel Ronna McDaniel is chairwoman of the Republican National Committee.

While Democrats trip over themselves to re-litigate a year-old election, President Trump is doing his job. He was elected to the Oval Office to create meaningful policies impacting the lives of all Americans — but time and again, Democrats obstruct that agenda. Why, then, shouldn’t the president hold them accountable?

The responses from Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Kirsten Gillibrand to the president’s latest tweet are laughable and ironic, considering they benefited from their previous relationships — until they became politically inconvenient. Take for example, Warren claiming the moral high ground when she too accepted donations from the Clintons and campaigned alongside them.

Gillibrand herself in 2006 said she was “truly honored” that former president Bill Clinton campaigned for her during her first run for Congress, yet just a few weeks ago she took the politically expedient position declaring that Clinton should have resigned during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

Americans know hypocrisy when they see it and appreciate a president who calls out men and women just the same. This shows something Republicans have long known: For Democrats, personality is more important than policy. We disagree, because we know that partisan bickering is never worth cheating Americans out of policies that help them and their communities.

Democrats ignore the issues that Americans really care about: a healthy economy, secure borders and individual freedoms. With consumer confidence on the rise, the stock market climbing to record highs and unemployment falling to a 17-year low, it’s safe to say that President Trump is delivering on exactly what matters.

He is promoting American industry and supporting American workers by increasing U.S. coal exports. He is getting our veterans greater access to quality health care. He is making America safer with tough immigration policies. Now, he’s ready to deliver tax cuts to millions of middle-class Americans. The rest is noise.
