Actors have their say

Who the SAG thinks are worthy — and not.

- Bryan Alexander

The Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations featured its share of surprise snubs Wednesday.

Here’s who will not be vying for the “The Actor” trophies at the 24th annual SAG Awards.

The Post: After scoring six Golden Globe nominations, Steven Spielberg’s drama about The Washington Post’s decision to publish the Pentagon Papers, featuring major acting names Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep, came up shockingly empty-handed in the SAG nominations.

Gal Gadot: Wonder Woman captured America’s heart, drew critical raves and was the second-biggest movie at the box office in 2017, earning $413 million. But Gal Gadot, who embodied the Amazon warrior in the superhero film with awards season aspirations, couldn’t score an acting nomination, nor could the movie’s cast (which did earn a nomination for outstanding stunt ensemble). Wonder Woman also was shut out in Monday’s Golden Globe Awards nominations.

Dunkirk: Writer/director Christopher Nolan’s World War II epic is gunning for awards season glory in best-picture and best-director categories. But in the blur of battle, the performances by a cast that includes Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance and Kenneth Branagh weren’t enough to push the movie to the top at the SAGs, which focus entirely on actors. The film did earn a nomination for outstanding stunt ensemble.

Daniel Day-Lewis: The revered actor wasn’t recognized for what he has said will be his final performance. He earned a Golden Globe nomination (best actor) for Phantom Thread, his reunion with writer/ director Paul Thomas Anderson, centered around the high-fashion world of 1950s London.

Tiffany Haddish: The Girls Trip breakout star has been an early awards darling, winning best supporting actress from the New York Film Critics Circle last month. After being denied a Golden Globe nomination, Haddish failed to earn a SAG nomination.

Fargo: The third edition of the FX drama, featuring Ewan McGregor and Carrie Coon, did not earn individual or group acting nominations.

Modern Family: The ABC awards darling, nominated for best comedy ensemble last year, was shut out in 2018. Hugh Jackman: Jackman has been in the awards discussion for both his singing/dancing P.T. Barnum in The Greatest Showman and his final role as X-Men’s Wolverine in the acclaimed Logan. He received a Golden Globe nomination for Showman (which the Globes also nominated for best comedy). But the actor came up short at the SAGs, even if Logan managed a nomination for stunt ensemble. Beauty and the Beast: The critically praised Disney musical, starring Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the Beast, is the top-earning movie of 2017 ($504 million at the box office). It was shut out at the SAGs, earning no nominations.
