Hendrick Motorsports hires Colon
Veteran motorsports manager Alba
Colon has been named director of competition systems at Hendrick Motorsports. A pioneering female racing engineer, Colon is moving from General Motors, where she ran the company’s NASCAR program. A native of Spain who grew up in Puerto Rico, she was hired by GM in 1994 and advanced through the ranks to become program manager for the manufacturer’s Cup series teams in 2001. Chevrolet won 11 Cup driver championships and 14 manufacturer titles under Colon’s leadership. At Hendrick, she replaces Darian Grubb, who moves into a crew chief position with new driver William Byron. Hendrick Motorsports, annually one of NASCAR’s top teams, won only four races ( Jimmie
Johnson with three and Kasey Kahne with one) last season.
