NYC sues, divests from oil companies over climate change
New York City announced a lawsuit Wednesday that blames five oil companies for contributing to global warming and said the city will sell off billions in fossil fuel investments from its pension funds. The city alleges the fossil fuel industry was aware for decades that burning fuel was having an impact on climate change. The defendants are BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Exxon Mobil and Royal Dutch Shell.
