Pence to head U.S. Olympic delegation

Vice President Mike Pence and his wife, Karen, will lead the U.S. delegation to the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchan­g next month, USA TODAY confirmed Wednesday, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. The person spoke to USA TODAY on the condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly. Pence will make stops during the trip in Japan and Alaska, where he will review some of the United States’ missile defense systems. He also plans to attend the Games, which are scheduled to begin Feb. 9. The news comes one day after North Korea said it will send a delegation to South Korea for the Olympics, including athletes, a cheering squad and high-ranking officials.
