Iconic race-car driver Dan Gurney died Sunday at 86 due to complications from pneumonia. Gurney was best known as one of the fastest and most versatile drivers in motor sports history. “With one last smile on his handsome face, Dan drove off into the unknown just before noon today, January 14, 2018,” Gurney’s wife, Evi, and his family said in a statement. Gurney was the first driver to win races in Formula One, NASCAR and IndyCar, a feat matched only by Mario Andretti and Juan Pablo

Montoya. He also was a race winner in Can-Am and Trans-Am.
