Chelsea Manning’s challenge stirs up Maryland primary

Chelsea Manning’s bid for the U.S. Senate could make the 2018 Maryland Democratic primary tougher for Sen. Ben Cardin. Cardin said Tuesday that he looks forward to a strong campaign.

Manning, a former Army soldier, was convicted in 2013 of leaking a trove of classified documents. The transgender woman was released from military prison in May after serving seven years of a 35-year sentence.
