#MeToo went too far with Aziz Ansari
After being accused of sexual misconduct by a woman he went on a date with last year, actor Aziz Ansari says he’s taking her words to heart.
So this is what we’ve come to? A man, albeit a famous actor, goes on a consensual date, attempts to have sex, gets shot down — but doesn’t rape or force himself on her — and it becomes a news story months later? How dare he!
This is getting a little out of hand. Gary Frisch
This woman’s story is just another reason why this #metoo movement is doomed. This is so sad for people who actually encounter sexual assault. Brandon Peterson
She didn’t say she was assaulted by Ansari. She said she was uncomfortable. Drawing him into conversation, not accusing him. Good for her. Takes guts, for a 23-year-old dealing with an older celebrity. I’m glad she spoke up. Callie Smith
Did she ever just say “no”? I read a lot about vibes she was throwing off in her recount of the situation.
Personally, I’m a woman and I don’t read vibes. No one should have to guess what you’re feeling or thinking. Say, unequivocally, no. Linda Rivet
The woman was issuing her concepts of cues but said nothing and allowed Ansari to undress her. Men don’t read cues very well. Allowing him to undress you is a cue that women must give off that men apparently take completely differently than women do.
I think a large percentage of the complaints by women on this #metoo move- ment are events that were exactly like this, and buyer’s remorse the next day.
Many #metoo complaints are valid and serious transgressions, but events like this are why so many of the women are not taken seriously and diminishes the entire #metoo movement — giving those arguing a “witch hunt” as much validation as those in the #metoo camp. Garland J. Campbell
