Q. Can you watch Grown-ish if you’ve never watched Black-ish?

A. Absolutely. The Freeform spinoff of the ABC sitcom has a very userfriendly premiere episode that is easy to get into, even if you never watched

Black-ish. Grown-ish centers on Yara Shahidi’s Zoey, and while she was always fun on Black-ish, she really gets a chance to shine on her own series. Because she’s starting college, most of the supporting characters are new. And if you like Grown-ish, it might be worth trying Black-ish, which is streaming on Hulu.

Q. Is it worth checking out The Chi?

A. I really enjoyed it. Showtime’s new Chicago-set series is a bit slow starting out but gets stronger with each episode. It has similarities with

The Wire or Treme, both of which captured the spirit of a city and had sprawling casts. You also might like it if you are a fan of Master of None, in which The Chi creator Lena Waithe appeared and also spent time in the writers’ room.

Q. Is The End of the F***ing World on Netflix inappropriate?

A. It certainly isn’t a familyfriendly show, as you may have guessed from the title. The British series, about two dysfunctional runaway teens, is profane and violent, but no more so than Game

of Thrones or Westworld. It doesn’t have a lot of on-screen sex or nudity, although it discusses sex. The show is smart in how it uses its provocative content; none is gratuitous or overwhelming.
