Villanova guard out indefinitely
Villanova redshirt junior guard Phil Booth will be sidelined indefinitely because of a broken bone in his right (shooting) hand, the school announced Wednesday. Booth was injured during the second half of the Wildcats’ 89-69 victory Tuesday against Providence. “All of us are disappointed for Phil,” Villanova coach
Jay Wright said. “He is one of our captains, and the respect for him among his teammates is off the charts. Phil is as mentally tough a player as we have had in our program. We know he’ll come back better and stronger from this.” It’s a blow for the Wildcats, who already lack depth. Only six players average 20 minutes per game. Booth ranks second in the Big East to teammate
Jalen Brunson in assist-to-turnover ratio (64 assists,
26 turnovers, 2.5 ratio) and averages 11.6 points per game. He has started all 20 games for the No. 1-ranked Wildcats, averaging 28.3 minutes. The Wildcats (19-1,
6-1 Big East) visit Marquette on Sunday.
