Fox News plans opinion-heavy streaming service for its ‘superfans’
Fox News Channel is getting into the streaming business, with a planned subscription service called Fox Nation expected to begin operation in the fourth quarter.
Fox Nation (no price announced) will deliver a mix of live daily video content — not a simulcast of Fox News Channel — and long-form programming, exclusive to subscribers. The service promises “interaction with all of (Fox News Channel’s) popular opinion hosts and personalities,” the network said.
The new streaming service is meant to appeal to Fox News’ die-hard viewers who want more, John Finley, senior vice president of development and production for the network, said in a statement.
“With our traditional cable viewership at an alltime high, we are proud to announce a new digital offering geared entirely toward the Fox News superfans, who represent the most loyal audience in cable, if not all of television,” he said.
The service is expected to include original shows and appearances by Fox News hosts including Sean Hannity, according to The New York Times, which reported the expected launch of the service late Monday.
Hiring for the New York-based service will begin in April, the network says, but at least one employee already may have been hired.
In August 2017, when Fox News hired Tomi Lahren, the conservative pundit formerly with Glenn Beck’s website The Blaze, the network said she would have a “signature role on an FNC digital product currently in development and will also offer political commentary to the network’s opinion programming.”
