Florida officer didn’t do his job

- LETTERS LETTERS@USATODAY.COM

Tim Vogt’s column, “It’s sickening to call cop in school shooting a coward,” is simply another example of a police officer coming to the defense of another undeserving officer. The fact is, there’s no such thing as a police draft. Some people who sign up to become cops are motivated by a sense of civic duty, and there are also those who are just adrenalin junkies and control freaks. I don’t know where on the spectrum the officer who didn’t go in while there was an ac- tive shooter in the school in Parkland, Fla., falls, but if someone wishes to risk their life for others for a low salary that’s their call. Officers are only employees doing what they’re paid to do, and that specific officer wasn’t doing his job. Edward Lumas Grand Rapids, Mich.
