At Oscars, did acceptance dominate?

- LETTERS@USATODAY.COM

Hooray for Hollywood!

I actually stayed up to watch the entire Academy Awards Sunday night and found that it gave me a sense of hope for our future. Although politics did not enter the conversation in a blunt way, Hollywood certainly brought out all of the issues we face today by the movies and roles in contention.

Guillermo del Toro, who won best ac- tor for “The Shape of Water,” spoke as an immigrant about the need for diversity and how lines drawn in the sand should be smoothed over. He gave subtle advice to our leaders of today.

No names were mentioned, but a feeling of unity and love prevailed throughout the star studded, glistening theater. It was not about the clothing or jewelry, but clearly focused on acceptance, tolerance and love.
