Raiders release Aldon Smith

-

The Oakland Raiders announced Monday that they released linebacker Aldon Smith less than 24 hours after San Francisco police said they sought to question him about a domestic violence incident. Smith, 28, had been on the reserve/suspended list and was set to become a free agent at the beginning of the new league year this month. He hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2015 and has yet to be reinstated. The San Francisco Police Department said in a statement Sunday that it was seeking to question Smith about an incident that allegedly took place about 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Smith “fled the scene” after a “victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries,” according to the statement. SFPD did not immediately reply to an email from USA TODAY. The former top-10 pick by the San Francisco 49ers was also a subject of an alleged domestic violence incident last year.
