On immigration, take California to task
LETTERS LETTERS@USATODAY.COM
Gov. Jerry Brown is calling the federal lawsuit against the state of California a stunt. California is violating the law by providing sanctuary to undocumented immigrants.
Sorry, but ensuring that the law is followed is not a stunt or a joke.
Yes, treating undocumented immigrants as criminals and removing them from the country would break up fam- ilies. But does the desire not to break up families apply to other criminals who are arrested and incarcerated? I don’t think so.
I sure hope that Attorney General Jeff Sessions takes Brown and others away in handcuffs.
And I hope that elected officials are held accountable for all the deaths and injuries that their sanctuary policies have caused.

Allow California to do as it pleases. Use lessons from that state’s efforts as precedent for other states or local governments to enact their own policies to deal with undocumented immigrants.
If states or towns choose to detain and deport immigrants, so be it.

I seem to remember the last presidential administration telling states that the federal government (and the federal government alone) was responsible for immigration laws. Bob Smith
