Jim Carrey, Mike Huckabee in a war of words

- Erin Jensen

Pablo Picasso had his Blue Period; apparently, comedian-turned-painter Jim Carrey is in his Trumpist Period.

Three days after unveiling a portrait on Twitter that resembles White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, he offered a new one portraying her boss, President Trump, as the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz.

Carrey captioned it, “The Wicked Witch of the West Wing and Putin’s flying monkeys.”

He drew the ire of conservatives with his painting of a scowling woman, which he captioned: “This is the portrait of a so-called Christian whose only purpose in life is to lie for the wicked. Monstrous!”

Twitter users knocked Carrey for his use of the word “Christian.”

“We all sin,” one user tweeted in re- sponse. Another shared a meme of someone lifting the lid of a trash can: “Hey look celebrity opinions,” the text read.

Sanders’ father, former Arkansas

governor turned TV pundit Mike Huckabee, also hurled insults at Carrey on the social media site. “Pathetic BULLY, sexist, hater, bigot & ‘Christaphobe’ @jimcarrey attacks @PressSec for her faith; what would be hypocritical Hollywood reaction if he called someone a ‘so-called Muslim’ or ‘so-called Jew?’ ” the former governor of Arkansas tweeted, adding “#classlessCarrey.”

Carrey responded to Huckabee’s response in a statement issued to The Young Turks.

“I am so gratified by the reaction to my little drawings. It is the job of a political cartoon to vex those who abuse power or enable those abuses,” his statement read. “This administration has been lying to the American people from day one while plundering the country and debasing our values. And those who cover for this shameful mobster of a President are putting makeup on a melanoma and telling the cancer patient that everything’s fine. Monstrous? You bet!”

Carrey has shared unflattering artistic works of Sanders’ boss, President Trump, before. Last August, the comedian/actor tweeted an image of Trump at the helm of a boat that was sinking into a sea of “lies.”

“WHAT WILL IT TAKE for the GOP to throw this madman overboard?” Carrey captioned it. “HOW LOW MUST WE SINK before REPS become patriotic?”

In November, Carrey posted a photo of what appeared to be Trump kissing the behind of Russian President Vladimir Putin. “With Trump in the WH, Putin may win the 3rd World War without firing a shot,” Carrey wrote at the time. “#PuckerUpPOTUS”

In a Q&A with W published in September, Carrey said painting Trump felt cathartic: “I think no one can really escape that aspect of life at this moment — the feeling of loss of control.”
