Urban’s ‘Coming Home’

-

Keith Urban has never been shy about sharing his adoration for his family. But his new song was inspired by another famous family: The Haggards. Urban said Coming Home started with the idea of using the intro of Mama Tried, one of his favorite Merle Haggard songs, and building around it.

“Hearing that rolling Haggard guitar lick sparked memories of my childhood — and my dream to come to America,” Urban says. “I knew right then the story (of the song) was about the struggles of being in a city where your dreams have brought you, but far from your home.”

Haggard has a co-writing credit on the song, along with Urban, producer J.R. Rotem, the song’s featured artist, pop singer/songwriter Julia Michaels, and country music songwriting force Nicolle Galyon.

Coming Home is from Urban’s ninth studio album, Graffiti U, which is due later this year.
